THE GERMKNÖDEL

Germknödel is a fluffy yeast dough dumpling (knödel), traditionally filled with spiced plum jam and served with melted butter and a mix of poppy seeds and sugar on top. It is a culinary specialty of Austria. The dish is served both as a dessert and as a main course.

POPPY SEED SUGAR MIX

We are very proud to be importing our poppy seeds from the famous region in Austria called "Waldviertel". The region is home to a unique variety of poppy flowers, giving the ground poppy seeds it's unique flavour.

PLUM FILLING

Powidl is a fruit spread prepared from the prune plum(zwetschge). 

Powidl is cooked for several hours, in order to achieve the necessary sweetness and consistency. The plums used should be harvested as late as possible, ideally after the first frosts, in order to ensure they contain enough sugar.

HOW TO PREPARE

VANILLA SAUCE POWDER

GERMINGER is traditionally served with melted butter and a mix of poppy seeds and sugar on top, but can also be enjoyed with our signature Vanilla Sauce, for which we are using artisan Vanilla from Uganda, produced by our friends Kiddu.

THE SCHMARRN

Kaiserschmarrn (Emperor's Mess) is a lightly sweetened pancake that takes its name from the Austrian emperor (Kaiser) Franz Joseph I, who was very fond of this kind of fluffy shredded pancake. It is served as a dessert or as a light lunch.
